Immigration Appeals Tribunal
The Immigration Appeals Tribunal was established under the Immigration (Amendment) (Immigration Appeals Tribunal) Law, 2002.
The Immigration Law (2010 Revision) section 15 (1) states that “any person aggrieved by, or dissatisfied with any decision of a Board other than a decision under section 14 may, within –
- twenty-eight days of the communication of the decision to him; or
- such longer period as the Chairman of the Immigration Appeals Tribunal may, for good reason shown, allow;
appeal therefrom by way of rehearing to the Immigration Appeals Tribunal”
The Tribunal holds weekly meetings to hear appeals against Immigration decisions with regards to the grant/renewal/amendment of;
- Work Permits
- Caymanian Status
- Permanent Residence
- Business Staffing Plan; and
- Political Asylum
Appellants may request to be heard personally or by a representative at a hearing date which would be set by the Tribunal and communicated to the appellant.
Under the Immigration Law (2010 Revision) section 17 (2) a person may appeal the decision of the Immigration Appeals Tribunal to the Grand Court on a point of law only.Members:
